Spontanea in America centrale, Ecuador, Messico, Guatemala dove fu scoperta nel 1843. Crescendo forma un grosso fusto non ramificato. Le foglie sono grandi, tondeggianti, con i margini dentati, verde scuro intenso e vellutate per la peluria rossastra che le copre. Venature molto evidenti. I fiori rosa sbocciano in inverno.
Pianta di coltura medio facile. Ama luce diffusa e terriccio ben drenante.
