Rara specie messicana scoperta nel 1950. Forma, molto lentamente, un rizoma eretto da cui spuntano delle particolarissime foglie carnose, profondamente incise, di colore verde bluastro.
I fiori sono bianchi e sbocciano in profusione a fine inverno.
